What is cold and hot fog for bedbugs and cockroaches?

( 5 ratings, average: 4.40 out of 5)

Living next to blood-sucking insects and mold in an apartment is usually not pleasant, and therefore methods of combating bedbugs, cockroaches and fleas are being improved every year. The best results in the fight against parasites are shown by fog treatment, which is supplied by a special generator. This method allows the insecticide to penetrate into the most inaccessible places and effectively destroy the insect population.

Why are cold and hot mist more effective than regular sprays?

This disinfestation allows you to clear the room of insects quickly and for a long time.
This disinfestation allows you to clear the room of insects quickly and for a long time. The reason is the small particle size of the insecticidal aerosol cloud (30-80 microns), which is significantly smaller than with other types of products.

An insecticide with a particle diameter corresponding to the fog is sprayed by devices called fog generators. They can produce both cold and hot mist.

Hot foggers for cockroaches and other insects are also often used to kill bedbugs. These devices are characterized by the fact that they contain a special heating system. When using hot fog, an even smaller particle size of the aerosol cloud is obtained.

Among cold fog generators there are models intended for home use. But among hot fog generators there are no such ones. All such devices are intended for professional use only.

Is it even worth spending money on a disinfection unit?

It can only be truly clean and safe where it is regularly cleaned, and this is done using professional means and equipment. Today, at the peak of popularity are aerosol devices that:

  • provide uniform treatment of surfaces and places that cannot be reached with conventional sprayers;
  • allow cleaning quickly and efficiently even over large areas;
  • are easy to use and allow you to save on operator salaries;
  • do not harm the environment;
  • have wide functionality.

If you care about antibacterial protection in a medical facility, kindergarten, school, office, warehouse, etc., then you cannot do without a cold or hot fog generator. But which one is better to choose will depend on the following factors: frequency and cleaning requirements, practical purpose of the premises, financial capabilities and area of work.

How does cold fog kill bedbugs work?

Hot and cold mist against cockroaches and bedbugs is an effective method of controlling household insects.
It consists of using special generators in the treated room, which, under the influence of temperature and pressure, release microparticles of a specially prepared solution into the space.

The operation of such modern, technological equipment is similar to powerful aerosol treatment and can be performed in both hot and cold conditions, is low-toxic and absolutely safe for humans.

A solution containing water and insecticide turns into small droplets that can penetrate hard-to-reach places and settle on their surface. The efficiency in all respects is many times higher than when using very efficient sprayers, since this significantly saves time and effort.

Instead of slowly spraying the working solution with a regular gun, you can do the same job many times faster. Using special equipment, the result is achieved much better.

Benefits of cold fog

Important advantages of killing bedbugs with cold fog:

  1. High penetration of insecticides into all areas of the room, including hard-to-reach areas;
  2. Immediate destruction of harmful insects;
  3. Complete destruction of cockroaches and bedbugs, as well as egg laying in large rooms;
  4. Profitability;
  5. Highly effective prevention of harmful insects.

How to prepare an apartment for processing

When submitting an application for work, exterminators will advise the client regarding the specifics of preparing the apartment for treatment. To ensure the effectiveness of the treatment and to prevent re-infection of the apartment, sanitary specialists recommend following a number of rules when preparing:

  • All food products must be sealed and hidden.
  • It is necessary to maintain cleanliness, put things in order in the house: wipe the gas stove, all surfaces in the kitchen, they should be as free as possible: remove leftover food, dishes, things from kitchen surfaces, refrigerators, tables, coffee tables, shelves, etc.
  • All children's things should be removed: clothes, toys, bedding, mattress, changing table, etc.
  • Use detergents to clean floors.
  • Vacuum carpets thoroughly.
  • Take out the trash: it is recommended to do it daily, in the evening, without leaving a full trash can until the morning.
  • All windows must be tightly closed.
  • While the work is being carried out, remove indoor plants and pets from the house: it is recommended to cover the aquarium with fish with film or thick cloth, and turn off the filter.

All preparatory activities are carried out before the specialist arrives. This will significantly speed up the completion of your work.

Killing bedbugs with hot fog

Destruction of bedbugs with fog can be either cold or hot.
In the latter case, the operating principle is reminiscent of a home kettle: steam is formed from the liquid, which, upon contact with the air in the room, cools and turns into fog.

The name of the method is directly related to the high temperature of the solution heated by the generator (about 70°C), at which the active chemicals work at their maximum. The higher the volume of microparticles of moisture that enters the room, the greater the likelihood that the fog will penetrate into all possible insect hiding places and ensure the release of both adults and eggs. Completely hot fog disappears 10 hours after treatment.

How does it affect insects?

This method involves spraying an insecticidal composition that is exposed to ambient temperature, causing hot vapor particles to form. They penetrate into all hard-to-reach places in the room. A stable film, which is difficult to notice on the surface, upon contact with an insect, infects it with an insecticide. In turn, the cockroach or bedbug infects the entire population and dies.

Hot fog against bedbugs, cockroaches and other insects has the following advantages:

  1. Duration of action – precipitated insecticide particles kill cockroaches over a fairly long period of time;
  2. Prevents the appearance and development of fungi and mold;
  3. Protects the room from many harmful insects;
  4. Reduces the content of pathogenic microorganisms in the air.

Most often, hot steam treatment is used in the following cases:

  1. Destruction of insect pests (fleas, cockroaches, ticks, worms) indoors and outdoors;
  2. Getting rid of various viruses in crowded places (for example, in public transport);
  3. Elimination of unpleasant odors.

According to the owners of premises and apartments who received absolute results by getting rid of cockroaches and bedbugs, it is not recommended to open the premises within 2 hours after treatment.

Sanitary and Epidemiological Service

It is better to entrust the destruction of cockroaches in an apartment to a special service. Factors contributing to this:

  • Specialists use professional equipment, which can be in the form of powerful generators or steam cleaners, and all equipment is certified, in good working order, and will not fail during the process;
  • Exterminators know what a cockroach infestation is; based on their work experience, they quickly identify a cluster of insects; they are not afraid if there are a lot of them; in addition, when working they use protective suits that prevent the penetration of toxic substances into the human body;
  • The substances used, thanks to which the destruction of cockroaches is carried out with cold fog, are inaccessible to the common person, they are located in the laboratories of the epidemiological service, they cannot be bought in a simple hardware store;
  • Specialists using professional equipment will be able to spray toxic components in the most inaccessible places that a person cannot treat with his own efforts.

The Sanitary and Epidemiological Service accepts applications for the treatment of premises in different ways:

  • Call the phone number during business hours, available information on the official website, leave a request, agree on the time of work;
  • In the form of an application by email.

In addition, the epidemiological service accepts anonymous requests if a cluster of cockroaches is found in an apartment. In this case, specialists go to the specified address and carry out work; the consent of the apartment owners is not required for this.

Cold fog as a remedy for cockroaches

The use of cold fog against cockroaches is due to the fact that the working solution is distributed into microparticles. Its droplets, emitted under pressure, are larger in volume than hot steam. Because of this, they do not heat up; their temperature coincides with the air temperature in the room being treated. The microparticles first accelerate and then fall, become completely filled and remain in the air for several hours after treatment.

When filling a room with this mist, in order to prevent a strong increase in humidity, it is necessary to strictly follow the instructions prescribed by the manufacturer, which requires a preliminary reduction in humidity before starting treatment. Removing drops of spray do not leave stains or marks on the fabric.

Fine-drop spraying: “proven classic”

Now, a few words about our processing method. In apartments we use fine-droplet (mechanical or electric) sprayers, whose droplet size is slightly larger than that of a “cold fog”. At the same time, we treat selected areas where parasites are concentrated (such as bedbugs, cockroaches, moths, flies, etc.). The fact is that our drug not only destroys parasitic insects, but infects them , and they subsequently infect their relatives. This is a proven, reliable and safe technology, while we are always selecting new drugs, improving the quality of processing. After our treatment, the room must not be left for 3 days, as in the case of “fog,” but only 3 hours, then the apartment must be ventilated.

Room treatment procedure

To obtain positive results from aerosol disinfection, it is important not only to carefully select the optimal method for its implementation, but also to prepare for the procedure itself according to all the rules.

How to prepare for processing?

  • The room must be empty: the presence of people without special equipment and animals is strictly prohibited.
  • Small items, electronics, dishes, and personal hygiene products must be sealed.
  • It is recommended to move the furniture to the middle to free access to the baseboards.
  • Carpets and wall decorations should be removed.
  • To increase the efficiency of processing, you need to remove dust from surfaces and floors.
  • If one of the residents remains in the room during the procedure, it is necessary to put on special equipment.

Treatment of the premises.

The exterminator carefully treats the room, paying special attention to door frames, baseboards, sofas and beds. Afterwards the doors are closed for 4 hours (cold treatment) or 10 hours (hot fog).

Cleaning the room after treatment.

After waiting the required time, wet cleaning of all surfaces in the room is carried out. Open the windows for at least an hour so that the air in the room is completely renewed. Afterwards, the person doing the cleaning needs to take a shower and unpack the preserved items.

Further actions after disinfestation

After filling with chemical mist, the apartment is closed for at least 3 hours. If the parasites were poisoned using the hot method, this period increases to eight hours. Therefore, it is better to carry out this procedure in the evening, leaving the apartment closed at night.

After this, the room must be ventilated by opening windows and doors for 2 hours. General cleaning is carried out after 15-16 days. Before this, it is enough to wash only the surfaces with which residents come into contact with a soap-soda solution: kitchen tables, door handles, switches and dishes.

Floors, baseboards and walls are washed after two weeks. At the same time, curtains and bed linen from the closets are washed, and lighting fixtures are processed.

Repeated treatment is required if neighboring apartments are also infested with parasites. If disinfestation with cold fog was not effective enough, then you need to change the preparations or use another method in the form of temperature exposure.

Advantages and disadvantages

Compared to other methods of controlling cockroaches, the cold fog method has several advantages:

  • economical (a small amount of insecticide is enough);
  • fire safety (flammable substances are not used, unlike hot fog);
  • speed of processing;
  • the effect appears immediately, and thanks to the chain reaction of infection, cockroaches continue to die even after treatment.

But the method also has disadvantages:

  • in the process, the humidity in the room increases significantly, which can negatively affect the condition of furniture, wall and floor coverings;
  • no effect on eggs;
  • the need to leave the premises due to the toxicity of the drugs used.

In addition, the method requires preliminary preparation of the room and thorough cleaning after treatment.

Called up from the reserves

The fundamental decision to use hot steam for special processing of objects has already been made, sources in the military department told Izvestia.

The first to use this method were the RCBZ units of the Southern Military District. They used TMS-65U heat engines, as well as mobile generators. They are used to disinfect large non-residential premises.

The TMS-65 heat engine and its modifications on the Ural truck chassis in wartime are intended for degassing and decontamination of equipment leaving the contaminated area, as well as for setting up aerosol curtains. In peacetime, equipment was repeatedly used to eliminate the consequences of man-made accidents. The powerful engine allows you to process 30–40 pieces of large equipment in an hour. And if you bring the machine to the windows of the building, it can quickly disinfect the interior of the first and second floors.

Is fog dangerous for humans?

Since this method is based on the use of toxic chemicals, it cannot be called absolutely safe. People react differently to insecticides, even if the manufacturer claims that they do not pose a health threat. Some may have a predisposition to allergies, while others may have intolerance to a particular substance.

That is why it is necessary to strictly observe safety precautions when treating with cold fog. If symptoms of poisoning nevertheless appear (headache, weakness, dizziness, nausea, itchy skin), you need to wash your face with cool water, go out into the air, and take a sorbent. If the condition does not return to normal, you should consult a doctor.
