Reviews on growing the Otradny variety

Alexey, Vsevolozhsk district, Leningrad region

Only the Otradny tomato grows in my garden beds. They grow different ones in greenhouses, but for garden beds I think there is no better variety than this tomato. The harvest is very consistent, always with tomatoes, we pick a lot of fruits from the bushes. They are small, suitable for the first salads, when you want your own vegetables. We use later varieties for preservation, but we also tried this one, it’s very good. But the most important thing is that no matter our summer, we always know that we will have a harvest.

Elizaveta, Tomsk

The Otradny variety is one of those tomatoes that every gardener should have. I grow only 8 bushes, they take up little space, they grow under arches right in the garden bed near the greenhouse. All are strewn with tomatoes, the bushes are small, stocky, strong. No more, the harvest begins early. I pick the fruits green, then they ripen at home in a basket. We eat them fresh, I roll them up, the kids love these tomatoes. But I note that their taste is not for everyone, they have no sweetness, just ordinary tomatoes.

How is sowing done?

Before planting the seeds, they must be treated with a weak solution of manganese. Prepare fertilized soil. It can be fertilized with peat or humus. Seeds should be planted to a depth of no more than 1.5 cm. After the seedlings appear, they are planted at the size of two true leaves. Seedlings are planted in open ground when they are 2 months old. First, it is recommended to harden the plant and take it out into the open air for a couple of hours.

Igor, 37 years old.

My friend has been planting the Otradny tomato for several years. I have been watching this variety for several years and during all this time I have seen that the variety produces a very good harvest. To calm down, I read reviews and descriptions of the variety, characteristics on the Internet and decided to grow tomatoes at home. I haven't been overjoyed for several years now. The tomatoes are all beautiful, identical and with an interesting sweet and sour taste. This is my favorite tomato. I recommend

Irina, 48 years old.

I used to plant tomatoes, and out of all the crops I planted, something was missing. I couldn't come to a common denominator. Either the bushes need to be tied up, or the yield is small, or the ripening time is not satisfactory. I am satisfied with everything about this variety, I am very pleased. I recommend to all. Thanks to the breeders.

Description of the variety

The variety is distinguished by its reliability, stable yield, and resistance to adverse weather conditions. Taking into account the fact that it is recommended for growing on open ground ridges, Otradny is suitable for almost all territories of the Russian Federation.

Many people love early-ripening tomatoes, because such varieties allow you to harvest excellent harvests even in regions with a cold climate and a short summer season.

This variety has delicious tomatoes that begin to ripen already on the 92-100th day, which cannot but please summer residents. The fruits have a universal purpose, and this is also a big “plus”: they are suitable for salads, tasty when preserved, suitable for making juices, sauces, and pastes.

ON A NOTE! Tomatoes of the Otradny variety do not crack and retain all their taste when pickled and in all types of preservation.

Main characteristics of the variety

The Otradny variety is considered not just an early, but an ultra-early ripening tomato, the fruits of which can be harvested after 92-94 days. The bushes are low, grow up to 45 cm, compact. The foliage is small, the leaf blades are medium, the corrugation is weakly expressed.

Due to its small size, this variety of tomatoes does not require pinching or bush formation, which greatly simplifies care. The Otradny variety is grown by both experienced summer residents and novice gardeners, and all of them can always hope for a very good harvest.

Round, beautiful fruits are formed on stocky standard plants. Each weight is up to 70 grams. The skin is glossy, dense, and when fully ripe acquires a bright red color. There is no ribbing, the fruits of Otradnoe are all as expected: smooth, round, shiny.

The pulp is very juicy, with a pleasant fresh taste. Some note the presence of sourness in the fruit, but this is largely determined by the conditions in which the tomato was grown, as well as care. If there is insufficient sunlight, tomatoes may be slightly sour, this is especially true for early varieties. In general, the taste is excellent, which is why Otradny tomatoes are used everywhere:

  • salads;
  • conservation;
  • pickling;
  • slicing.

Small tomatoes are suitable for canning as a whole.

These tomatoes store well (for a short time) and are also suitable for transportation.

Advantages and disadvantages of the Otradny variety

The Otradny tomato variety is in demand among many summer residents, and this is due, first of all, to its unpretentiousness. The tomato requires minimal care and will definitely reward you with a good harvest.

Other advantages of these tomatoes include:

  • very early fruit ripening;
  • excellent taste;
  • resistance of the variety to unfavorable conditions;
  • the ability to grow tomatoes in beds, in tunnels, under arcs and film;
  • yield indicators are quite good for an early variety - up to 5 kg per square meter. meters;
  • cold resistance.

The variety has proven itself very well in various regions of Russia; it is grown beyond the Urals, in Komi, Karelia, and in the middle zone. This variety is also resistant to diseases, and manages to “escape” from late blight thanks to its ultra early ripening.

A big “plus” is the universal use of Otradny fruits; here the summer residents themselves determine where the tomatoes will go: in salads or in preparations. This variety is delicious in any variety.

Among the disadvantages, the following should be noted:

  • small size and weight of the fruit (lovers of large-fruited tomatoes should choose other varieties);
  • Tomato pulp may be slightly sour.

The disadvantages are, rather, features of the Otradnoye variety, and they simply need to be taken into account. Typically, gardeners grow varieties of tomatoes on their plots with different ripening periods and fruit weights, so the Otradny variety is ideal for an early harvest.

Advantages and disadvantages of tomato

The variety was bred specifically for growing in different climatic conditions, which gives the tomato a great advantage. Let's look at what positive features the breeders endowed the tomato with:

  • excellent taste of the fruit;
  • the tomato does not crack;
  • cold-resistant;
  • The fruits ripen at the same time, you can immediately preserve them;
  • The variety is resistant to various diseases;
  • The use of tomatoes is universal.

No deficiencies were identified in the variety.

Interesting fact! Marinated tomatoes retain the entire set of vitamins that fresh tomatoes had. Canned tomato is better digestible, it has a great effect on the digestive tract, and reduces the level of various pathogenic bacteria. Thanks to the lycopene content in fruits, you will cleanse your body of antioxidants, thereby maintaining youth and health.

Growing tomatoes outdoors

You need to start preparing seeds for sowing at least a week in advance. Step-by-step process of planting and growing tomatoes in open ground:

  1. The plant is grown by seedlings. First, you will need to prepare a greenhouse where the seedlings will grow.
  2. Install a greenhouse. First, dig up the soil, break all the breasts, the earth should be loose. To make it lush and nutritious, add a bucket of peat per square meter of greenhouse. The soil with the added additive is mixed well to evenly distribute the peat.
  3. The soil contains various pathogenic bacteria and fungal spores, which can reduce the plant's immunity. To disinfect the soil, use a manganese solution or an antifungal drug of biological origin, for example, Baktofit. The soil must be watered with the prepared solution; it must be saturated to at least 30 centimeters.
  4. To ensure complete protection of young plants, treat the seed material. You can soak the planting material in a growth stimulator to ensure plant stability, or soak it in a one percent solution of potassium permanganate for 20 minutes, then rinse and dry.

  5. Sow tomatoes to a depth of two centimeters. Before placing the seeds, the soil needs to be slightly compacted and watered with warm water. Each seed is placed at a distance of 2 cm, so that when the plants begin to develop, they do not interfere with each other.
  6. The seeds should hatch 7-8 days from the moment of sowing. The tomato is watered with warm water (30 °C). The optimal temperature for plant growth in a greenhouse (greenhouse) is +23-25 °C, with an air humidity of 60%. Only if a normal climate is observed, during the period of seedling development, it is possible to obtain strong plants, which will subsequently bring a good harvest.
  7. The seedling period is 55-65 days. Before planting in open ground, the tomato must be hardened off. To fully harden young shoots, it will take 15-16 days.
  8. Before planting seedlings, you need to prepare the holes. The holes made need to be watered abundantly, mineral fertilizer (Nitrophoska) must be added, and ground egg shells (from mole crickets, wireworms) must be added.
  9. The plants do not need staking or pinching. Care consists of:
  • weeding the beds. This is a necessary measure to combat weeds, which attract insects (carriers of viruses) and deplete the soil, taking away nutrients;
  • loosening the soil, which will allow the roots to breathe oxygen from the atmosphere;
  • treatment of tomatoes against pests and diseases. The most common parasites are the Colorado potato beetle, aphids, caterpillars, and whiteflies. To combat them, use the drug "Aktara". To prevent bacterial diseases, spray tomatoes with Bordeaux mixture (preparation: 150 grams of quicklime and 100 grams of copper sulfate are diluted in 10 liters of water);
  • watering plants. Consumption per bush is 5-8 liters.

Description and characteristics

The variety is early ripening; 92-102 days should pass from germination of planting material to technical ripeness. Plants grow standard and have moderate foliage. The leaves are corrugated, medium-sized, tomato-type. The first inflorescence appears above the sixth leaf, 5-6 fruits are tied in one brush.

The smooth and shiny fruits are small, 50-70 grams. The shape of the vegetables is round, ripe tomatoes are bright red. The pulp is juicy, there are a small number of seeds. The tomato taste is excellent. You can place 6-8 bushes on one square meter. The yield, provided the given number of plants is planted, is 2.5-5 kilograms. The grown fruits are used in whole-fruit canning and processing into various tomato products.

The variety is resistant to various climatic changes, as well as diseases. According to the State Register of Russia, it is recommended to cultivate it:

  • West Siberian region;
  • North-West region;
  • Central region of the country;
  • Volga-Vyatka region.
